Guest lecture for the Software Science (CS 346) class at The University of Montana - Missoula, given November 15, 2000 during International Education Week.

A short overview of the events featured during International Education Week at The University of Montana and an introduction to project groups at the University of Dortmund are followed by an experience report describing the design and implementation of an electronic commerce portal system for insurance companies. The object-oriented design using UML, the realization of Java adaptors for the integration of heterogeneous subsystems, and the use of the middleware CORBA for communication within the portal were objectives of the IPSI project realized by the University of Dortmund in cooperation with several insurance and software companies.
